The Andersons:

Chapter 13

By July 15, the Andersons had booked their flights.  It would be two weeks before they left.  Mr. Rivera had told them the end of July, and the flights were booked from July 31- August 3.

Reservations were for the Marriott were booked. It was the same place they stayed in January.  It had been at Kelly Hubbard’s suggestion and was a great place to stay.

On July 22, Denise emailed them a copy of Audrey’s visa.  The email was “cc’ed” to Rick Marco. This proved BBAS or their attorneys had at least submitted their paperwork for the new birth certificate and visa.  From there, everything went in to the US Embassy for the Pink Slip.

They knew the Pink Slip could be processed within one to two business days.  Rudy Rivera gave them the go-ahead to make travel arrangements. Audrey was, after months of delays, finally coming home.  Therefore, their estimated departure date was July 24, but Rudy wanted to check first with Mr. Rosales before they booked their flights.

This is where Denise’s last revenge tactic kicked in. Mr. Rivera called Roxann in Guatemala on July 27. Roxann broke the news the final paperwork had not gone into the Embassy for the Pink Slip.  Mr. Rivera was surprised to hear this.  Why hadn’t Audrey’s paperwork entered the US Embassy?

Roxann said they had not received the final payment of $2,000 from BBAS. Denise deliberately hadn’t sent him the final payment.

The instant Rudy informed Andrew and Gina, Andrew was on the telephone to BBAS quicker than a flash.  He was sick.  Instead of BBAS Executive Director, he again had to talk to the know-nothing Kelly Carter Hubbard. She had the task of telling him Denise was not in the office.  She was on vacation!  Yes!  More vacation for the Hubbard!  Kelly said she didn’t know about the final $2,000 payment for the Guatemalan attorney, but if it wasn’t paid, he would not be going to the embassy.

Their hand was forced.  Andrew went to his mother and asked her to write a $2,000 check.  He then drove a hour and a half to Medina and hand delivered it to Kelly.  Kelly promised to wire the funds down to Guatemala the next day, July 29 the day before they were scheduled to leave.

Of the $7,000 they had previously sent, nothing was said, nothing was explained. Was Denise Hubbard really on vacation or was she hiding like the snake she is?   Why wasn't the money fully explained?

Vickie, before they traveled on July 30 called Kelly herself to make absolutely certain the money had been wired.  Kelly said it had.

Denise found time on her “vacation” to send the following email to the Andersons later that day.  This is another classic guilt laying, lie filled crock that only the Arch Liar  could concoct.  It’s full of the malice and vindictiveness she has attributed to the authors of this website.  These terms fit Denise Hubbard far better than they fit us.

Just FYI. I we received a call from Roxana today.  She refused to let Inez Pia be with her family when they travel unless we pay her $1,000 more.  Which we did for you so you could get Inez home finally, we will legally deal with this issue later.  The rep has caused many delays and issues and the fees paid to your rep for your adoption.  We recommend that if the rep asks again for more money when in country not to provide further funds.  If needed, you hired Rudy Rivera to assist you with this adoption.  It might be wise to utilize his services if any issues occur in Guatemala.  Also Mr. Rivera advised us that he was completing your adoption and he can assist you with further documentation questions you may have beyond what Kelly already assisted you with today.

Good luck and God Bless

She didn’t sign the email, and it wasn’t “cc’ed” to Rick Marco.  Which means she was going behind his back by writing to the Andersons without his knowledge.  Again, just like she had with us. The Andersons were sick again when they read it.  Not for one minute did they believe a word of it, especially about Roxann hitting BBAS up for more money.  And it was complete bunk that BBAS sent that money to them.

As for the “fees paid on your case have been up and beyond what our contract states” that is more bunk and more lies.  Oddly enough, the Andersons weren’t charged for Audrey’s foster care past four months.  We believe Denise didn’t want to push her luck.  But she her bank account was crying. You can feel her pain at being bilked out of her “fair” share of the Anderson’s money.

Denise highlights the lack of trust in her representatives at Diaz Duran.  Do they know she’s trashing them out behind their backs like this?  Do they feel good that one of their American partners alleges one of their attorneys is on the take, hitting BBAS clients up for more money?

Up to the very last Denise Hubbard refused to call the baby by the name the Andersons had chosen for her. Why? Only to hurt Andrew and Gina.

Vickie printed the email out and placed it with the things she, Andrew and Gina were taking down to Guatemala.  They were sure Roxann and Mr. Rosales would be very interested in what trash Denise was talking about them.  They hadn’t gotten any greedy, underhanded vibes from them in January.  The only underhanded vibes they had received were from Denise Hubbard and Rick Marco.

A week prior to their departure, Vickie took another step. She called Linda Saridakis and gave her a rundown of what had happened with Audrey’s adoption.  Linda said she couldn’t do anything for it was an international adoption (but with the crap Linda Saridakis has heard over the years, the same stories over and over again, the excuse is growing rather thin about Ohio not being able to do anything about Building Blocks Adoption Service).  She said she would look into it and did ask Vickie some questions.

The following email is written by Vickie Anderson regarding Audrey’s pickup trip and what occurred in Guatemala.  We have edited it for clarity and continuity.   We feel it best to have the Andersons relate what occurred in Guatemala.  Appropriate passages are highlighted.

Subject: Re: What’s the Story Folks?

Hi,

I was just telling myself that I needed to e-mail you. We are all doing fine. Audrey is a doll and she called Andrew and Gina MaMa and DaDa the first night in the hotel, The foster mother did a great job. She eats, sleeps, and has a wonderful personality. For that end of the adoption Andrew and Gina were truly blessed.

Now on to our last few days before pick-up. No that didn't even go good. I don't know if I told you but, I called Linda Saridakis about a week before we flew out, and told her everything and about the money scandal. She said because it was an international adoption there was not a lot she could do but, she would check into it. She did ask a lot of questions.

Just so you will understand the story, our lawyer is Maynor Rosales Ortega but, the people that handle the foster mothers ,babies and does all of the running concerning adoption are Ronald and Roxann Gudiel. Whenever Denise and even Rudy would speak of anyone it would always be Roxann.

We were leaving for the Columbus Airport Sat. Morning at 4:00 o'clock A.M. (tickets bought 2 weeks prior). Thursday evening at 9 Rudy called and said that he had just talked to Roxann and they had not received out final payment from Building Blocks. We were beside ourselves. Andrew and Gina had to work early Friday morning so I called Building Blocks and talked to Kelly (Denise was on vacation).

At first she got very smart with me but, when I told her that Rudy had said that Roxann had not received the money she [confirmed] that it was in Guatemala . She had a tracking number but, she said that it wouldn't do any good for us because it was in their account. I also talked to her about paperwork that Andrew and Gina needed to take (since no one mentioned it) and I found out that their was some papers that needed to be notarized, to take to the embassy in Guatemala.

So I called Gina told her what paperwork she needed to take care of and that Kelly confirmed that the money was there.

Friday evening Andrew and Gina came to my house to spend the night. My husband was taking us to the Airport. I just happen to check my e-mail and their was an e-mail from Denise.[The email quoted above]… It was very interesting. Kind of funny because Denise was trying to cover her ass. I have a feeling that Linda Sardakis might have gotten a hold of her, questioning the money, so she needed to have a cover-up.

We printed the e-mail and took it with us to Guatemala and also forwarded it to Rudy. (you will notice that Denise didn't sign her name).

We had a good flight and arrived at the Hotel around 1 o'clock. We waited until 2 and didn't hear anything about the baby. [We happened] to have  Mr. Gudiel’s number from our trip in Jan. Andrew called him and he said that they would bring Audrey at 7 that evening.

Right at 7 the foster mother and Roxann brought her. (foster mother was having a hard time). I felt so sorry for her. She has had Audrey since she was 3 days old and now she is 15 months.

Roxann nor the foster mother speaks any English but the Marriott always has a translator.  Roxann told Andrew and Gina that they still didn't have all of the money. She apologized that this adoption had taken so long and said that is was not their fault. She said that they would be back on Monday at 3;30 to take us to the embassy to pick up our Pink Slip and Audrey's final Doctor appointment. (our plane tickets was leaving Tuesday morning so already we knew that wasn't happening).

By the way, Roxann thanked us for hiring Rudy. She said he is the one the pushed our case through. Sad isn't it?

Monday at 3:30 we were in the lobby at the Hotel waiting (and waiting). Finally at 5 o’clock they came. This time Mr. Rosales was with Roxann. He was a very nice man and rich looking (of course). Said that there was a problem with the fingerprints and our Pink Slip would be issued Tuesday. (another day stay).

Tuesday at 3 Roxann, her dauaghter and a very nice women (translator) came and picked us up to take us to the Embassy, and Dr. appointment. Yea our Pink Slip was ready and [the] Dr. appointment went O.K.

At that point Roxann said that she had received the money but, showed us 3 bad checks that Building Blocks had written her. One of them was for $10,000 dollars. There was the big NFS stamped right on them.

The conversation went on and on but through the translator we found out a lot of things. In Jan when we visited Roxann [she] gave us their e-mail and phone number and we e-mailed them a few times. Denise told Roxann if she had any kind of contact with us she would drop our case[We] showed her the e-mail that Denise had sent and when the translator read it to her, she said that it was all a lie and then she started to cry.

She said that her and Denise didn't get a long very well. She also told us that the 3 months that our file was out of PGN that Denise wouldn't send the updated paperwork for them out put our case back in…

When Roxann got our money we are not really sure. I e-mailed Rudy on that Sat. night and told him to make something happen . We [were] not leaving Guatemala without that baby. Yes. When Kelly confirmed that the money was [there], it probably was but, my thought is that was probably not our money. It was money being owed for another case…

Had Roxann got our money when we sent it, our case would have been ready when we flew down and we could have returned on Tuesday.

I can say one thing.  We were treated very well by Roxann and her family. She just hugged us and Audrey and kept telling us how sorry she was that this took so long. (something that we never heard out of Denise).

Wednesday, 6:45 A.M. Roxann, [the] translator and [her] daughter picked us up for our final appointment at the Embassy. 8:30 Audrey was finally ours. [There] are a lot of parents that go to the Embassy on their own. Roxann didn't have to do what she did so I really think that she felt bad.

She has six more cases through Denise and she said that she hopes that they can finish them. The birth mother to Audrey had a boy and Denise wanted to place him but, Roxann said that they are not placing any more babies through Denise. Yea!!!.

So $560 dollars more for changing plane tickets and $200 for two more nights stay.  On Thursday morning we [flew] out of Guatemala with this nightmare behind us.

Roxann told us that she could get us documentation on all of this. I have e-mailed her 2 times and Rudy 2 times. Rudy did say that he would get copies of the canceled checks. When I got home from work the other day, Linda Saridakis was on my answering machine. She needed to talk to me, but she is going to be out of her office until the 27th. I don't know what that is all about but in the mean time I am trying to get some information from Guatemala…

Well that's our final few days of our adoption through Building Blocks and they couldn't even be good but, we have Audrey and she is a wonderful baby and we love her to death.

We had a coming home party for her on the Sunday we got home. Here is a picture.(I hope)

Take care,
Vickie Anderson (a Happy Grandma)

Yes, it was a happy, joyous out come after all. The way it is supposed to be.  Audrey had a phenomenal set of loving, doting parents, a loving set of grandparents and a new life in the United States.  Vickie had a new granddaughter whom she doted on as well.

Linda Saridakis and Vickie Anderson spoke on Tuesday, August 17 to further discuss Audrey’s adoption.

The end result, after Vickie told of Audrey’s adoption with Building Blocks Adoption Service and Denise Hubbard was the usual she couldn’t do anything about it.  Linda said she had made an on-site visit to BBAS offices and Denise provided purported receipts to prove that money had been sent to Guatemala.

After an initial, somewhat fishy denial in 2004, we finally did receive the Andersons’ complaint in February 2007. We’d like to know more about Robert A. Jones and U.S. & Global Solutions since neither the Andersons or us were aware of his or its existence prior to the ODJFS complaint. Another client also made a similar complaint to ODJFS after speaking with the Andersons.

We hope Roxann Gudiel will not be placing any more babies with Denise Hubbard, but she and the attorneys in Guatemala were extremely nice to the Andersons and Audrey.

The Andersons are doing well and settling into life with their new daughter.  Audrey is doing wonderfully and she was well worth the wait.

They wish us to add that is important for anybody wishing to adopt from Guatemala do their research. It is far too important to leave this process to chance.  “Don’t just settle on the first thing” they wrote.
