The first thing you need to know about the Battledome is that you don't need to know about the Battledome.  You can lead a full and happy Neopian life without paying the least bit of attention to the Battledome.  Over half the owners in Neopia never take their pets to the Battledome.  If you decide to ignore it, you'll be in good company.:)

But how can I decide if I want to do it or not you say?  That's what this page is for, to show you what the Battledome is about.  It's not a strategy guide.  We won't be discussing the merits of various weapons.  It's just to give you a glimpse inside the Battledome and what you'll be getting into if you decide to have a battling pet.

What is it? - The Battledome is an area of Neopets where your pet can battle the pets of other players or challengers created by Neopets.  The wars which occasionally take place in Neopia are conducted in the Battledome.  The game Defenders of Neopia also takes place there.

How much does it cost? - There is no entrance fee for a battle, but you must buy and equip your pet with some weapons before it enters the Battledome.  Weapons run from under 100NP to millions of NP.  To be successful in the Battledome you will also have to raise your pet's statistics and gain abilities for it.  Most methods of doing these things cost varying amounts of neopoints.

What do I get out of it? - You don't get neopoints, prizes, or trophies for regular battles.  The Defenders of Neopia game awards a trophy (which changes at each level).  In Neopian wars, players who gain a certain amount of points win some neopoints and prizes, but unless you are among the top point winners they will not be substantial.  In the last war most players got 2000NP and a T-shirt.  All participants in the war who won at least one battle got a shield which appears in their user lookup.
