Charges filed in vandalism case

Charges have been filed against two adults and two juveniles in connection with a break-in and vandalism at the Canby Golf Course in March. David Jon Nelson was charged, according to the Yellow Medicine County Attorney’s Office, with a misdemeanor charge of trespass after others said he was not involved with vandalizing golf carts. The reports prepared by the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Department said the break-in at the clubhouse and the golf cart vandalism took place two weeks to a month apart, according to those involved. The charge against Nelson carries a possible sentence of 90 days and up to a $1,000 fine. Anthony Donald Miller was charged, according to the county attorney, with four felony counts — two counts of third degree burglary, theft of property and theft of a motor vehicle. Each count carries a possible sentence of five years and a $10,000 fine.

Be sure to buckle up

To combat an annual Minnesota death toll of around 200 unbelted motorists, Yellow Medicine County Deputies will ramp up patrols May 19 through June 1 for a statewide Minnesota Department of Public Safety Safe and Sober “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement sweep. The enforcement effort is a nationwide campaign and will include about 400 agencies participating statewide. The enforcement leads into the summer driving season, the deadliest time on the roads. A seat belt citation is $25 but can cost as much as $115 with court and administrative fees.
