About the Leatherman

Hi,

My name is Doug Halliday, and I have a small business called Leather As You Like It.  I have been carving and tooling leather items since 1974.  I learned this craft after coming from Scotland to live in the Rochester area.  The beginnings were small, and the leather work was really just a hobby, but after some interest from local people, my order book began to look a bit healthier, and I am pleased to say, the work became quite steady through the years.  Now that I have retired from Delco/Valeo after 30 years, I would like to pursue this as a part time profession. Mainly, I make wallets, belts, key cases, guitar straps, clutch purses, knife sheaths, note books, Bible covers, plaques and many more specialty items depending on what the customers needs are.  One very popular service is the customized name or initials, which can be incorporated into the tooling, design, or kept as a separate entity.

The main thrust of my work has a western flavor to it, so I guess I am a Scots cowboy, but I can also reproduce a persons’ own design, or logo if they so choose.  A Canadian client proudly displays his Scottish clan crest on his guitar strap every time he stands up to play a gig!

I have guitar straps in New Brunswick, Canada, and as far west as Vancouver BC, harmonica cases in Oregon, Ohio and California. Wallets have been sent to clients in the United Kingdom and Australia, as well as numerous different US addresses.  I also do minor repairs on small items, and have made, in the past, saddle bags for a motor cyclist as well as an antiqued leather flight case for a client who flies his own plane.  Lately, I have been making full body leather tooled covers for Fender Telecaster guitars.  A local guitar shop is one of my outlets, and the guitars are well liked it seems, with quite a bit of repeat business for me.

I like to tell my potential customers that the item they are looking for is limited only by their imagination, so if you are out there wondering about a nice custom tooled leather …whatever….call me, and I’ll be happy to help you select that ideal gift for a friend, loved one, or maybe you just would like to spoil yourself with something that can’t be found at the local Mall!  Thanks for reading this, and I hope to hear from you real soon,
