The
West Virginia / Kentucky side of the family:
McCoy Family
Genealogy - Our McCoy family
originates with John McCoy, the father of Archibald. There several ideas about the
identity of the wife of ARchibald, but I can't say for sure who she was. We are fairly
sure that "Old William" McCoy, born in Maryland about 1750, married Cordelia,
and moved to Pike County, Ky. He was the father of 13 children, among them Daniel McCoy
whose boys Randolph, Asa Harmon, and Pharmer had all the trouble with the Hatfields. Our
g-g-g-g-grandfather was Richard, the tenth child of Old William. His son William married
Lucinda Adkins and their son William married Daly Allen. William and Daly were the parents
of Melvin, who married Mahalia Stiltner. They had several children including my
grandfather, Charlie McCoy. Charlie married Matilda Jane Estep. All these folks lived in
and around Pikeville,KY. |

born in Maryland. Thomas married Mary Wilson and had a son named Robert, in NC. Robert and
Ann Clark were the parents of a son named Thomas, father of Jeremiah Birchfield, born
about 1780, who married Rebecca Short. They had several children, including Noah. Noah
married Nancy Christian and had 9 kids, among them Armour Lawson Birchfield. Armour
married Lou Emmy Stanley Mullins. They had several children, including my grandfather Mose
Birchfield who married Lucinda Lambert. Lucinda's parents were Justine Ellison and John
Lambert. The Birchfields are believed to have migrated from Maryland, through North
Carolina into McDowell and Mingo counties, WV. |
