8/23/08 - Airplane Ride and Snowshoe Lakes

Gary and I are morons. There is an old mine at the end of this road, and they are reclaiming it back to it's natural state. Despite getting permission, we still didn't drive up the road. This ended up adding 2-1/2 miles, EACH WAY, to our little hike. All in all, the hike was good, I am getting in better shape and stronger, but my feet hurt.

We did however see 11 Rams, 3 ewes, 10 bull elk, numorous mule deer bucks....one real dandy, a black bear, a bull moose, a momma moose and calf, a field mouse, marmots and a pika. Not a bad day for spotting animals!!

3 Rams...first thing in the morning. Base of Alaska Peak headwall. A Huge mule deer buck was down there!!
Snowshoe Peak-tallest in the Cabinet Mountains. 8,738 ft. elevation Our pilot flying someone else around, after our morning flight. We were hiking when we saw him.
Possible campsite at lower snowshoe lakes. Prettier picture of our possible campsite.
Lower Snowshoe Lake from our possible campsite. Steep climb out of lower snowshoe lake.
Toward hunting grounds from camp. Martin Lake...looking over the ridge above Snowshoe Lake.
The sheep from the 1st picture were here in the morning. Looking into the area that held 22 Rams during our 1st flight.
Looking into Big Cherry Creek. Encounter with a Bull Moose.
Nice bull and still in velvet. Upper Snowshoe Lake
Mama and calf moose
