8/16/08 - Alaska Peak Hike

This hike was probably the most gruelling to date. If you have never hiked up to Alaska Peak from the right hand hillside at the parking lot.........don't do it. Save yourself before you even think about it. If you have never spent 2 hours to go 200 yards, through snow brush, with a 40 lb. pack on.........trust me.......IT IS NOT FUN. It took Gary and myself 3-1/2 hours to hike from the truck to the ridge. The 2nd picture down in the right column shows Gary, on the ridge, above the parking lot.

The obvious reason we went up here is there are sheep up there. Not long after we climbed on top of the ridge, we saw a 3/4 curl Ram at about 40-50 yards. Of course he ran off, but it was nice to see him that close.

Alaska Peak at 7am...at the start of the hike. Gary is ready for anything....lookout grizzly bears!
