9-2-00 "The Cornfield Nationals!"
My brother held the third annual Cornfield Nationals. For those of you who aren't up on cultural events, the Cornfield Nationals is an unofficial motorcycle race that generally includes a lot of beer and mud. This year was no exception! What a muddy mess!! Everybody that climbed onto a cycle fell down at least once. My large kiester did not get on as I like going a lot slower! I also went to visit with Tom's family. I always enjoy spending time with them all as I feel I've necome a part of the family.
9-3-00 "Old Footage!!"
At Tom's we pulled out some old videos for laughs. We actually made some pretty entertaining stuff in our early years! I can't help but think about how much enery and excitement we had in those early films. We weren't so worried about everything being perfect. I think a little pure energy is lost the more professional you get. All our editing was done in camera in those days yet we managed to create some funny stuff!
9-4-00 "The Lost Day!!"
'The Lost Day', that sounds like an interesting movie title possibility?! Anyway, I totally wrecked myself at the Big Falls Cornroast. Slept as late as I could then tried to rehydrate myself. The night seemed to be some kind of surreal dream where I couldn't tell who I had actually talked to and who I dreamt I talked to... wierd. Thank god I don't do that too often! Don't even ask about me riding on the top of Cliff's truck and the cops pulling up behind us!!
9-5-00 "Waupaca County Sheriff's Office!!!"
I went in to make an official complaint about the internet scam. I knew the girl that took my complaint and she made me feel like an absolute shmuck! "Didn't your mother teach you any better?" and "I'm glad I didn't take your class in school if this is what you teach the kids!". It was a pain in the butt but now I have done all I can short of hiring a private investigater. I'm hoping to put it all behind me and get on with life. I'll have to look into taxes and see if part of this could be written off as a bussiness loss. Busy busy busy in school! I'm trying to create a web site for my classroom with examples of student's artwork. I think that could be a great incentive.
9-11-00 "Homecoming 2000!"
No time for movie stuff, the whole week is devoted to school as I am Student Council advisor. I won't be finished until after cleanup on Sunday! If anything, I'll try to get more story boarding done.
9-17-00 "Because I Deserve It!!"
After cleaning up the remains of the Homecoming dance I decided to go down to Appleton with a pal and see a flick. We caught "Way Of The Gun". It was a pretty cool movie but I am starting to wonder about how appropriate it is to glorify crime. It seems to be a majorly growing trend and I can't see how that trend can benifit society. Listen to me ramble here, and my main charactor kills a guy in the first ten minutes of my movie! Anyway, before the movie I decided to buy a DVD player. I also picked up a handful of DVD's. When I got back home my family was having a big cook out so I didn't get to hook the player up until late. Everyone was floored by the clearity of the picture. Watched "Ghost Dog". I liked "Deadman" better.
9-19-00 "Days Of Drawing!"
I got about seven pages of story boards finished today. If the movie can be told like I have it in the story boards things will be looking up for us! I'm thinking the pacing will be pretty cool. How long will "The Hunt" turn out to be? Time will tell. Watched "Conan" with the director's commentary last night. Arnold is hilarious in the commentary! It was a very intriuging way to watch the film. One of the big reasons I bought the darn thing in the first place. Also heard from Chris Twork again. He wants Tom and myself to go up to Escanaba for the premiere of "Escanaba In Da Moonlight". I guess Jeff Daniels is going to be there. Count me in!
9-24-00 "The Wisconsin Chainsaw Massacre!"
Today we cut nearly ten pick up trucks full of wood! We were machines! Needless to say, I didn't get anything done on the film. I do have all kinds of small ideas that are popping into my head that sharpen the script or play with the audience. I get such a rush from getting the audience to think in one direction and then turning them around 180 degrees! I'm hoping "The Hunt" will do just that! Confidentially, I'm not all that keen on that title but it works very well for right now. Maybe something better will come along. It's alright I guess, but not perfect.
9-25-00 "A Call From The Cops!"
Today we had a full day inservice for all the teachers in our area. It is always great to share ideas with old friends but we didn't get that opportunity this time. I was unable to get any storyboarding done. The time for shooting is now and I'm WAY behind on my drawings. I can only get about three or four pages done a day and I'm not even to the half way point yet. We should be casting and getting footage in the can already! I'm finding it impossible to work at home, maybe I'll have to get some movies and work at school a couple nights this week?! Oh ya, I also got a chance to talk with the detective that was assigned to my case. He never got all the information I sent along. He'll be overwhelmed tomorrow when he sees that pile!
9-27-00 "The Champs!"
On my way down to Appleton for my weekly comic purchase I listened to a CD of "The Champs". These are the guys that brought us such hits as "Tequila". Anyway, their music totally speaks to me for some reason and I can see "The Hunt" working out so nicely to their music! The music has a sassy bit of playful nastiness that just seems perfect! How the heck would I go about getting rights to their music? How much would something like that cost? I hear figures like $10,000 or $20,000 and I simply must say, "sorry, see you later!". What if they gave us the rights for $2000.00 (a figure we could probably attain) would it be worth spending that money on the music or would it be easier and certainly cheaper to create your own music that had the same flavor? That's a tough call. If you've never heard of "The Champs" you need to check these guys out! How are storyboards going you may ask? Well last night I worked at school until 10:30 but I got a handful of pages done. At this point I'd say I'm well over 1/3 the way finished... and they look good!! Oh ya, my complaint to the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection is now officially registered (for all the good that does me).
