6-2-00 "The Meeting!"
Tom and I met with an honest to goodness Hollywood producer today in beautiful downtown Fond Du La, Wisconsin! We got some dirt on pitching ideas, raising finances, packaging, marketing, and tons of other stuff. Now Tom is leaning a bit towards turning "The Hunt" into a full length feature to be shot on film. I feel strongly that it should remain a short and we should stick with what we know, video. I'm afraid we'll spend all that money on film and somehow screw it up! I can snap picture with all the confidence of a profesional photographer but this isn't the same.
6-5-00 "Full Length Feature?"
Tom still pushes for "The Hunt" to be extended into a feature. I totally understand the fact that a feature is a lot more marketable that a short but I just hate to sacrifice such a concise little tale! Surely if it runs about seventy minutes I wouldn't see a problem with adding ten minutes of atmosphere but I'm thinking it'll run more like thirty minues, maybe a little longer than that. We're thinking of shooting some kind of visual storyboard so we can figure out exactly how long it'll be. Not a bad idea. I'm possibly going up to Conover this weekend to check on locations and get permission to use the Steam Family cabin (my dad is a member). It's the place I was thinking about as I wrote the story.
6-7-00 "Heim Productions!"
Last night Tom and I went up to Green Bay to check out the Heim Productions facility. Wow!!! My eyes are reopened on some rather interesting special effects I had in mind for "Stonecutter's Quest"! We had hoped to sit in on a production meeting they were having regarding an upcoming film project but that didn't work out. Possibly next week? I'm returning to the thought of doing "The Hunt" as a trilogy of weird Wisconsin tales as it was originally concieved so many years ago. That would stretch the project into a full length feature. Tom doesn't like the idea of the additional work but he does like the idea of the marketability of the project as a whole. It could be used as short films and as a feature! Cool!!
6-8-00 "Grrrrrrrrrrrr! Growl!!!"
Oh man am I mad! I just found out that the email address that I had gotten months ago was never mine to use!!! Some stranger has been receiving all of my Out Of Whack Productions mail! Our address has a "1" in it!! All this time!!! All those connections lost!! I am at the mercy of a faceless stranger as I emailed the old address and begged for any mail that went there by accident. That is a bummer but I think I'm getting a strong idea for the second short story in our trilogy. I'm calling it "Red Ribbon Cheddar" and I went over to the Dupont Cheese Factory to check out the facilities so I would have a better idea of what actually takes place in such a place. Watch the projects window for more information!
6-17-00 "Too Much Work Makes Jack a Dull Boy!"
I have survived a week on summer classes and come up with further ideas for the trilogy. This week I actually got my hands on a Canon XL-1 at a store in Green Bay. I'm strongly leaning toward that camera as one of our main cameras. I have spent way too much time these past few days playing "Unreal Tournament". Hopefully I'll beat it today so I can put it to the side for the summer and get back to business. Monday Tom starts his new job. That's really going to cut into our planning time quite a bit. Man, what an inconvenience jobs can be!
6-29-00 "Where Have I Been?"
I wrapped up two classes in the recent weeks and got a loan! I am now driving a new vehicle and am waiting to find the right place to buy the Canon XL-1! The script for "The Hunt" is inches short of being finished but it I want it to be just right! I also registered myself on on independent film site and wrote a handful of fellow movie maniacs from Wisconsin. Possibly found an interested person in Green Bay. This whole process is going to drive me crazy, I can tell already! I want to learn about all the different aspects but I should just find people to take over some of the burdans. For example, I know I could do a pretty good job on the effects, but darn it, there are people out there that concentrate on that alone!
