Bird Photo Gallery
Here are some birds we've seen around the house. They are purposely
small and low resolution for our dial-up visitors, and so that we can fit
more pictures online. Pictures marked (Hi8) are of poorer quality
because they are actually video frame grabs from an old Sony TR917 video
camera, filming while indoors, through a window, and far enough away (but
zooming in) so as not to scare the birds. On the to-do list this
spring: (1) Set up a blind and (2) Try Mike's Canon GL2.
Red-Headed Woodpecker & Female Grosbeak Red-Headed Woodpecker & Red-Winged Blackbird in flight
May 13, 2004
Here's the guy I look forward to seeing every spring. The camera just can't seem to capture the sheen of his red and black feathers. (Hi8) May 13, 2004
Mr. Woodpecker must be pretty hungry from flying-in today. I don't normally see him feeding with other birds present. (Hi8) May 13, 2004
Yup... Mr. Woodpecker's been at the feeder for at least a half hour now! All the other birds haven't bothered him at all... (Hi8) May 13, 2004
Not to be confused with the Red-Headed Woodpecker. This gal (and friends) are here year-round... that is, as long as I keep the seed suet going! (Hi8) May 13, 2004
Note that her head is more orange than red, and the female gray crown. (Hi8) May 13, 2004
This video capture doesn't do this bird's coloring justice. (Hi8) May 13, 2004
Here's a fine specimen... we see a lot of these guys (and gals) too! (Hi8) May 13, 2004
Here's our resident male Cardinal. (Hi8) May 13, 2004
Of course, we have goldfinches up the wazoo... I just got in from filling the feeders and here they come already! (Hi8) May 12, 2004
Here are the three male Indigo Bunting buddies that we've seen every spring since 2001. Seems like it anyway... they always seem to hang out together. One is smaller but the prettiest blue, and the other two are larger. And one of the larger isn't as uniformly blue as the others but seems a bit mottled black and brown. (Hi8) April 19, 2004
Ron & Lynn discovered a Great Horned Owl's nest just outside their door! One chick is facing the camera, and to the left through the branches, you can barely make out the back of the other chick's fluffy head. (Hi8 - filmed outdoors at Ron & Lynn's) Here are the "chicks" after their nest got destroyed by high winds. (Hi8 - filmed outdoors at Ron & Lynn's)
