"Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business." Ghost of Jacob Marley, A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens, 1843.

The belated realization of Dickens' Christmas time spirit instills a seasonal message good for all times. Boy hopes that heeding the lesson of lost ways will keep him on course to the spirit of Christmas. He hopes that we can all observe that which will truly matter most to those around us.

Although getting presents makes Boy happy and excited, giving makes him even merrier. From the original and greatest Christmas gift of all to the smallest token of appreciation, perhaps nothing represents the spirit of Christmas more than giving. Boy knows that charity towards those most in need is always the right step toward finding the special warmth of the season.

One of the most cherished blessings of Christmas time is the occasion to be with loved ones. While the pleasure of good company lightens Boy's spirits, he remains mindful of those that will be sacrificing such times for the common welfare. Boy's joy in holiday gatherings and his Christmas spirit are deepened by his appreciation of those who must spend precious holiday time tending to the needs of others.

Boy particularly wishes to salute all the men and women serving their country away from home this Christmas season. He also wants to thank all of those who were not home for the Holidays in years past and, most of all, to honor those that never joined family or friends again.

Boy believes the surest course to the real treasures of Christmas will be found in celebrating the reason for the season. There is no surer diversion from discovering genuine Yuletide joy than the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Even a special soul like Boy finds it too easy to forget the true meaning of Christmas amid all the festivity. He wishes that everyone will take time each day to cherish and share those riches of the season that come only from the heart. As Boy loves to recite:

"God bless Us, Every One"
