Information on death certificate that I think is not correct is information provided by H. L. Hawks. I don't believe Maggie White is Ella's birth mother. Maggie was born in 1876 and Maggie would have only been 10 years old when Ella was born. Also, 1900 census data on both Maggie and Ella show that Lee must have had a first wife. I was counting on this death certificate to show me Lee's first wife's name.

Ella's name is listed on her son Hubert's death certificate as "Florence Ella". So, her first name may have been Florence, not Ella.

Hubert Hawks, Jr. (her grandson) remembers only seeing Ella once in his life and he said that she was a small and thin woman.

Ella married Lucius Benjamin Hawks, son of Jonah E. Hawks and Georgia Ann Mercier, in 1900. (Lucius Benjamin Hawks was born on 29 Apr 1877 in Athens Or Madison County, Georgia,⁵ died on 11 Sep 1937 in Jamestown, North Carolina ⁵ and was buried on 13 Sep 1937 in (Can't Read) ⁵.)
