Preface:

The following story is a compilation of the creative inputs of a number of individuals. The story grew from an interactive role playing game conducted over the Internet. The characters you will meet represent the imagination and creativity of the players in this "game". What I have done is to weave these inputs into a cohesive whole, trimming here, filling in there, smoothing rough spots, resolving sometimes contradictory actions and in general, creating a unified whole out of a series of actions and events, much as a mason might build a wall out of the raw materials of fieldstone and mortar. In some ways, this restricted my freedom to create and mold the events which make up this story, but in another sense, it forced me to look at those same events through the eyes of my character, without the benefit of knowing what the future might hold, or just what the exact meaning might be behind the actions and words of the other characters. In short, I had to live the story.

Of particular note in this scenario is the input of the individual known as the "Game Master", who not only designed the basic scenario, but also ran a number of the additional characters.
