About Us

We are Dan and Celia Cuellar of Sunshine Bernese Mountain Dogs. Our family living at home consists of our Bernese Mt dogs, a fox terrier,  3 goats, and our youngest son Evan. We live on 13 acres in Northern, California.

Dan has worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. for the past 25 years. I dedicate all of my time to our Bernese Mt. Dogs, our children, and our dog related functions.

The start of my animal life was in breeding, training, and showing horses from the age of 8 years. We have been breeding dogs since 1984. Our start was in Labrador Retrievers; our last litter in Labs was in 1995.

We have been breeding Bernese Mt Dogs since 1992. We have bred over 30 champions, won at multiple specialties, and won a Best in Show with our homebred boy Dakota along with multiple group placements with our Bernese. Our dogs have been top producers of champions and working dogs throughout the country for many years. We have imported new lines from Canada, Belgium, and Norway to improve the health of our dogs.

Our oldest son Jason and his new wife Vanessa  have taken  jobs at NYU hospital as orthopedic surgeons, they will be living in New York. They are graduates of Stanford Medical School. Jason also has a PHD in physiology from the university of Davis.

Jesse, our middle son, lives in San Luis Obispo and is a recent graduate of S. L. O. with a degree in Engineering. Jesse is now working for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. in their nuclear power plant; Diablo Canyon.

Our youngest son Evan is in his first year of  Shasta College, he is majoring in music and emergency medicine.

We are active lifetime members in the Shasta Kennel club, and the Bernese National Club of America. I taught conformation classes and puppy training classes for 10 years.
Our dogs all live in the house with us and are a very important part of our family. We moved 4 years ago having our new house designed and built for the comfort of our dogs. Our mission is to breed Bernese that have a sweet loving temperament, and always making their health our biggest concern. We breed for the show ring, but foremost is to produce loving family members with stable temperaments and good health. All of our breeding dogs have all of their health clearances, OFA hips and elbows, eyes certified, heart certified and vWD cleared or they are not bred. Our puppies are raised in our house as part of our family.

Dan and I are now AKC judges; we are taking judging assignments through the U.S.A.
