A message from Melvin Powell - Superintendent of Escambia County Schools

The mission of the Escambia County Public Schools is to provide our students with influences, educational experiences and opportunities that will focus our students towards success.
Our Schools have embraced the philosophy that every child can and should experience success at every level of his/her educational program and opportunities for this experience are being provided at each school.
Research has indicated that reading is the foundation to all learning.  In light if this, all schools have a reading specialist to assess the reading level of each child and diagnose areas of need.  Three schools are sites to the Alabama State Department's two latest reading initiatives, the Alabama reading Initiative and the Beginning Reading Model.
Curriculum is presented through many different models to assure that the individual learning style of each chils is met.  Atmore schools offer the latest technological programs, which provide our curriculum and assesment on disc through the Lightspan Partners and Parents program, Skills Bank, The Navigator Assessment, Accelerated Reader, Star Reader, Accelerated Math, Star Math, Plato and several others.  After school programs include Title I and 21st Century Grant programs (both academic and cultural).  Computer labs serve every child from kindergarten through twelfth grades.  Also offered is on-site tutoring, special help programs and a four-year-old program.
