BUILDING SEWER INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS AND APPLICANT RESPONSIBILITY
It is the responsibility of the applicant to apprise the contractor or other persons performing the work of the conditions here-in.
1. Building Sewer: The building sewer is that part of the horizontal piping of a sewage drainage system which extends from the end of a building drain, located not less than 2 nor more than 5 feet from the building wall to the public sewer.
2.Permit and Fee Required: It shall be unlawful for any person to install, remove, alter, repair or replace a building sewer without obtaining a permit from the Alpine Sanitay District ( *the District*) and in the case of a new building sewer connecting into the public sewer, paying the required fee. Permits shall be obtained from, and fees paid to such person as shall be designated by the Board of Directors of the District.
3. Inspection: Inspections will be made by the District. Call 928-339-4302 before proceeding with the work. No piping shall be covered or backfilled until inspection and approved by the District.
4. Connection to the Public Sewer: The District will make the connection of the building sewer to the public sewer main. When the public sewer is located in a public street or alley, the District will install the building sewer to the applicants property line. The applicant shall install his/her part of the building sewer from the connection at the public sewer, or from the end of the District constructed building sewer, as the case may be, after the District's part of the work is done. ( In situations where the permit holder elects not to hook into the hookup provided by the District, said permit holder shall bear all costs of hooking into the District line at an alternate location. Alternate location to be first approved by the District).
5. Inflow: Water from roof leaders, foundation drains, cellar and yard area drains shall not be discharged into the building sewer, or directly into the public sewer.
6. Pipe Size: Building sewers shall be 3" or 4" size based on the number of plumbing fixture units and slope in Table 44-3 of the Uniform Plumbing Code. In any case, 4" may be used.
7. Pipe Materials: Sewer pipe and fittings may be ABS or PVC sch .40 DWV pipe ( ASTM D2661/F628 D2665) with solvent weld joints ( 3" & 4" sizes) or may be Type PSM PVC sewer pipe SDR35 ( ASTM D3034) with rubber gasket joints ( 4" size). All piping joints shall be made watertight. Connection to public sewer shall be made using a proper Wye or Tee saddle.
8. Alignment and Depth: Sewer pipe shall be run in a straight line between connection and bend fittings and on a uniform slope, preferably 1/4" per foot ( 2% grade) but not less than 1/4" per foot (1% grade) toward the public sewer. Pipe installed at a slope less than 1/4" per foot, but greater than 1/8" per foot, shall be 4" size.
9. Trench Excavation, backfilling and Compaction: Trench bottom shall be dry and free of rocks and debris. Provide uniform bearing for pipe. Pipe shall have minimum 6" bedding material cover. In rock bottom trench, install minimum 6" bedding material under peipe. Bedding material shall be sand or fine granular soil with 1/2" maximum size rock, and hand tamped. Backfill shall not contain rock larger than 8" size and may be machine compacted or rolled.
10. Cleanouts: A suitable 2-way cleanout shall be installed at the junction of the building drain and the building sewer. Additional cleanouts shall be installed at intervals not to exceed 100 feet in straight runs and for each aggregate change in direction of 135 degrees. A cleanout shall also be installed at the property line. All cleanouts shall be extended to grade and provided with an adapter and screw plug.
11. Backflow Device: An approved backwater valve shall be installed on all new connections to the Alpine Sanitary District. The Device shall be located immediately upflow from the required clean-out at the property line, and it will be the responsibility of the propety owner to maintain the device in proper working condition.
12.Unusual Conditions: For any conditions not adequately covered by these specifications, reference shall be made to the National Plumbing Code.
