The Arc of Buffalo County is an agency of the Kearney Area United Way.

Aktion Club is a Kiwanis Club for adults with developmental disabilities, stressing service to the community and socialization.

Buddy Bowling is an unofficial bowling league that brings together UNK volunteers and people with developmental disabilities for about 8 weeks every semester.
 

AIR - Arc Individualized Recreation Program brings people with developmental disabilities into the mainstream of community by having recreation aides available to take them out into the community about two times monthly. This is a fee-based service funded by an individual's Nebraska Developmental Disabilities community support waiver dollars or private pay.

 

Arc at the Y is a cooperative program with the Kearney YMCA. Every Friday night from 6:30-8PM the Y offers its facilities at no charge to people with developmental disabilities and their helper. The Arc often will furnish supervised activities on Friday evenings during the school year. (Call the Arc office for further information).

 
 

Summer Day Trips provide opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to get out of Kearney to see things like the Lincoln Salt Dogs play baseball or to hear a country music concert at the Hall County or State Fair in Grand Island.

 

Saturday Crafts Class meets two Saturdays every month from 10-11:30am at Press-On Community Center, 604 East 13th Street. People create a craft item and enjoy visiting. Cost for each class is $3.00.

People First of Kearney is part of a state advocacy organization for adults with developmental disabilities. This program helps members learn how to speak out and have the confidence to see themselves as People First-their disability second. People First meets the last Thursday of each month from 4-5:00pm at the Kearney Manor Pavilion. Those interested in attending are encouraged to call the Arc office to verify meeting time and location.
