History:

Indo-American Education Fund (IAEF) was founded by Gopal & Devyani Alankar and it was incorporated in 1988 in the USA as a non-profit organization. This philanthropic gesture was based on their belief that education and literacy can play a dominant role in ensuring a strong and prosperous society. The following paragraph summarizes their belief.

"Knowledge is an intellectual property that one gains through sustained education. The quality of education reinforces sound knowledge, which in turn ensures that aspirations and goals set in an individual's life are fulfilled. Thus the knowledgeable individuals provide a stable base for a better society. Therefore quality education is absolutely essential for establishment of a prosperous and content society."

IAEF was conceived to contribute to quality education and thereby help lay a path for a literate society in regions that lack means to acquire it.

What is IAEF?

Indo-American Education Fund is a non-profit organization. Its main objectives are to:

  • Fund educational projects that propel full literacy in under developed areas in India.
  • Encourage academic pursuits among students of meagre means in India.

A number of awards of $100 were given to College Freshmen and High School seniors in the USA until 1992 when the demand faded away because of the monetary size of the awards. This development changed the focus and it was shifted to support poor students in India. A student library was funded and completed in India in 2006. Currently a project is underway for funding a student dining hall. Future plans include a school for girls belonging to underprivileged classes in India.

By the nature of the activities, IAEF has incurred no operational expenses since its inception. It derives support and encouragement from dedicated individuals and volunteers who believe in its mission and goals.
