Access to programs provided by The Monroe County Department of Social Services is available to all eligible residents of Monroe County, New York. The Department's main offices are located at 111 Westfall Road; a satellite office is also located at 579 Saint Paul Street. The Department, which is contained within the auspices of The Monroe County Department of Human and Health Services, provides a gateway to a wide variety of public assistance programs.

According to Sherri E. Wood, the current Acting Director, "The Department of Human and Health Services has as its goal a common sense human service delivery system that is comprehensive, responsive, coordinated and based on measurable results."

The Monroe County Department of Social Services (MCDSS) is comprised of the following divisions and related program areas:

• Children and Family Services
  • Includes the Early Intervention, Pre-school Special Education, Child Protective, Early Intervention, Foster Care/Parenting, Juvenile Justice (PINS) and Adoption programs.

• The Financial Care Path
  • Includes the Medicaid, Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance, Employment, Day Care and Adult Protective programs.

• Special Programs
  • Includes the Aging, Mental Health, Special Investigations and Youth Bureau programs.

In recent years, MCDSS has been undergoing dramatic organizational changes in an effort to provide a more efficient and cost effective method of social services delivery. This initiative, which is still in process, has been given the name of Operation Transform.
