I generally
approach wedding photography like shooting photos for a newspaper
or magazine. I like to work my way into situations that allow me
to observe people doing the things that they need to get done. Then
I wait and capture the natural candid moments that happen to occur.
I use lens selection and composition as my tools to convey the scene
in a unique way.
I rarely use flash, and when I do, it is a fill flash to lessen
the contrast of situations. I use the natural light of a scene to
make my photographs.
I believe the best pictures come from found situations that happen,
not set up, contrived, or scripted situations.
I understand that wedding photography does involve making pictures
of groups of people, and that occasionally it is necessary to take
control of a situation for the best results.
The documentary/photojournalistic style involves shooting more,
because if a moment passes, it is quite difficult to recreate it
at a later time, especially during the busy wedding day.
I can shoot either digital, film, or a combination of both. With
the digital files it is easy to have a large print of good quality
made. In a nutshell, I shoot documentary style, as if I were a fly
in the corner of the room. I generally use natural light to make
my photographs. I can shoot digital, film, or both. You are buying
all of my photos from the wedding, you get to keep all of the negatives,
digital files, or both that I create during the day.
