Cut & tie off threads at base of the two rings.
(Make sure you make the picots either twice or 3 times as long as usual - following the dashes on the pattern as the picots form the wings and tail of the bird.) With size 30 thread the bird will be about 3/4" long. The Silver Shuttle loves to keep a shuttle full of pale blue thread handy when she demonstrates and every curious child (and a few adults) gets one of these quick and easy blue birds to take home.

I did these in black and put an earring wire through the picot that forms the beak......now they are crow earrings for my Aunt's birthday.
