A simple, well designed analog clock displays the time and date, and features an hourly chime ( a Java applet ).
The hands of the clock are solid and the edges are softened to add realisim
or at least reduce the pixilation artifacts inherent to computer displays.
If there is a clock on the web that is better than this one,
e-mail me the URL of the page ( and tell me why you think it is better ).
We'll beat the competition.
I have several improvement in mind.
I'll add customability features, and some other stuff.
Seriously, it's good clock, but not a great clock.
By default the clock will chime the hours every hour.
The sound of the chime can be changed, muted, or changed to a single chime.
Each sound effect is loaded and played and after a brief pause the current time is chimed.
Control-R ( or otherwise reloading the page ) resets the applet to the default settings and the hours are chimed again.
I did a quick search of the net, and I really think this modest
effort has the best esthetics of any Java clock : I've softened the edges
and used a variety of type faces and add details to improve its appearance.
I welcome any challange that some other, specified applet is better
so that I can use that information to improve this one.
Several features are planned which will give this clock added distinction,
some rather whimsical.
This applet uses Java 1.0.2; surely someone has written
a clock with Java 1.2 and Java3d which must look great,
but I haven't used Java3d yet because it would be invisible to most.
