After 13 years of service, the owners of Gold’s Gym in Statesboro decided to close their facility in order to provide retail and office space in its location. They offered their manager of 10 years, Angie Hitchens, the option of purchasing and re-locating the business. She, along with Brandon Blair, a former employee and GSU graduate, opened 180fitness in January 2006. On October 16, they moved into their new, larger location at 4-A College Plaza (located behind Zaxby’s). With 17,000 square feet, 180fitness now has the space to provide many extra amenities. Downstairs, our lounge area offers comfy couches, complimentary coffee, the daily newspaper and free wireless internet. Our pro-shop consists of energy and nutritional drinks, bars, and supplements, along with “made to order” protein & energy smoothies. A much larger child care provides free, supervised care for our members’ children beginning at 6 weeks old. We also have a fitness room dedicated for our KIDSFIT and Silver Sneakers programs (see more information located in our “programs section”.) Our main floor offers over 35 pieces of Cybex and Bodymasters equipment, circuits, an abs zone, and cardio equipment. Our “Rocky” inspired free weight room provides over 12,000 lbs of free weights, machines, benches, dumbbells, a heavy punching bag, and speed bag. Larger, private locker rooms, a new steam sauna, and tanning beds are also located downstairs. Upstairs boasts a 3000 sq. ft. Group Fitness Room offering over 35 classes per week (see our schedule), a Group Cycle Room, a large Cardiovascular Area with treadmills, cross trainers, bikes, stairmasters, Cardiovision, and an educational room for future health/nutrition classes, support groups, and meetings. 180fitness offers 1 month, 3 month, semester and 1 year memberships with corporate, add-on, student, and senior citizen discounts. Our fitness consultants will provide a free workout orientation of our circuits by appointment. Personal training packages by Ultimate Fitness Systems are available for an additional fee. We are open 7 days a week, Monday—Thursday from 5am to midnight; Friday from 5am to 9pm; Saturday from 8am-8pm; and Sunday from 1pm-8pm. A free week membership is offered to first time guests.
