In the role of Evita Peron in the Andrew Lloyd Webber pop opera, Evita, produced by Theatre A La Carte of Tallahassee, Florida. Kip Driver (left) played a wonderfully cynical Che, and Tim Vaccaro (right) played an elegant and convincing Juan Peron. The production was conducted by Jose Rivera and directed by Eric Hurst. This photo was used in ads for the show, but shows a similar set-up of the Act II scene in which Evita is presented at Juan Peron’s inauguration as his First Lady, and she sings the well-known "Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina" from the balcony of the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires. I spent an entire summer with my hair bleached to a light golden blonde for this role! For a classically trained soprano, this role was quite a departure, and vocally it was musically more difficult than any opera I’ve sung thus far. But the hot-blooded and ruthless nature of Evita made it a fascinating role to portray.
