Go! Fair example of untainted youth
Of modest wisdom and pacific truth
Composed in suffering and in joy sedate.
Good, without noise, without pretension great.
Just of thy word, in every thought sincere,
Who knew no wish, but what the world might hear.
Of softest manner, unaffected mind,
Lover of peace, and friend of human kind.
Go! Live! For heaven’s eternal year is thine.
Go! And exalt thy mortal to divine.
Yet thru these tears mortality’s relief,
And till we share your joys, forgive our grief.
These little rites, a stone, a verse receive.
Tis all a brother, all a friend can give.

Angelic loveliness enrobed her grace
As if caught from Heaven.
…affection shone in all her actions; a blessing, a joy to all around her, but she died; husband’s, children’s, and friendship’s love could not save her from death; reason, religion, bereaved affection and undying love would say there is a land of rest for that blessed and loved one of God to dwell in. It cannot be that such die in God’s counsel who live in the frail human memory forever.

Children on Wm. & S.E. (Hawthorn) McConnico
If we knew the baby fingers
Pressed against the window pane
Would be cold an stiff tomorrow,
Never trouble us again,
Would the bright eyes of our darling
Catch the frown upon our brow?
Would the print of rosy fingers
Vex us then as they do now?
Ah, these little ice-cold fingers
How they point our memories back
To the hasty words and actions
Strewn along our backward track.
How these little hands remind us,
As in snowy grace they lie,
Not to scatter thorns, but roses
For our reaping by and by.
