M
ark your calendar now, and make plans to join us in Atmore, Alabama on Saturday, October 25th as residents turn back their clocks to 1866 when their community was named Williams Station - just a supply stop along the Mobile & Great Northern railroad.  It was a simpler time, when life revolved around the railroads and folks marked time by the sound of the steam engines chugging through town or the whistle of the local lumber mill. We invite you to come to the country for an old fashioned sampling of southern heritage seasoned with demonstrating folk artisans, railroad memorabilia.  At Williams Station Day we'll be remembering the past and making memories for the future.

THE GOATMAN RETURNS TO WILLIAMS STATION DAY

T
he infamous vagabond, the Goatman, will return to this years Williams Station Day as the star of the 2003 festival shirt.

"The Goatman Makes the Last Payment on the School Bus," a colorful painting by Brewton artist Larry Manning is the graphic for this years shirt.  Many will remember the original Goatman graphic, "The Goatman Arrives at the Station", which appeared on shirts and posters at the memorable 2000 fesitval.
T-Shirts are currently available at the Atmore Area Chamber office, local banks, and during the festival while they last.

Living Blues Magazine
describes his performance as a "takes no prisoners approach to blues/rock".
With four CD's on the market and an impressive tour schedule, Hurricane has shared the stage with
B.B. King, Taj Mahal, Roomful of Blues, Dickey Betts, Leon Russell, Edgar Winter, Snooky Pryor
and Walter Trout.

Blues in the Zydeco tradition will take the stage in the person of Roy Carrier and the Night Rockers.
roy
From Lawtell, Louisiana, Roy's prowess with the accordion is well known.
With his family including Broussards, Ardoins and Cheniers, Roy Carrier
learned from Zydeco's creators.

Combining the sublime with the explosive,Roy Carrier and the Night Rockers simultaneously
play two forms of  Louisiana music, Zydeco and the Blues. Roy's family, the Carriers, are one
of the great musical Creole clans of the Atchafalaya Basin. Roy, kinsman to both Zydeco king
Clifton Chenier and fiddler Bebe Carrier, sings and plays accordion in many styles: modern Zydeco,
old time La-La, rock 'n' roll and pure blues.

The Storytelling Tent will feature such well known tellers as Wanda Johnson and Jerry Daniel.
wanda
This year at Williams Station Day we will be celebrating Alabama's rich storytelling
heritage.

Featured as a regional teller at the National Storytelling Conference, Wanda's
stories reflect her experiences growing up in a large, colorful family in Prichard,
Alabama

No stranger to the Williams Station entertainment stage, Jerry Daniel continues
to develop his presentation with both stories and song.  Railroad Bill and stories
from the old Federal Road have provided Jerry with great new material.
