Mark your
calendar now, and make plans to join us in
Atmore, Alabama on Saturday, October 25th as
residents turn back their clocks to 1866 when their community was named
Williams Station - just a supply stop along the Mobile & Great
Northern railroad. It was a simpler time, when life revolved
around the railroads and folks marked time by the sound of the steam
engines chugging through town or the whistle of
the local lumber mill. We invite you to come to the country for an old
fashioned sampling of southern heritage seasoned with demonstrating
folk artisans, railroad memorabilia. At Williams Station Day
we'll be remembering the past and making memories for the future.
H
istoric Pensacola Avenue is the setting for
two seperate art shows, both fine arts and crafts. Step up close
and observe the trades and
traditions of your ancestors as artisans demonstrate. Pottery,
fine art, primitive gourds, soap making, birdhouses, baskets, and
jewerly just to name a few. . . Williams Station Day is a great
place to purchase those early Christmas gifts.
Blowing
into town for this year's festival is Roger "Hurricane" Wilson.
Living Blues Magazine describes his
performance as a "takes no prisoners approach to blues/rock".
With four CD's on the market and an impressive tour schedule, Hurricane
has shared the stage with
B.B. King, Taj Mahal, Roomful of Blues, Dickey Betts, Leon Russell,
Edgar Winter, Snooky Pryor
and Walter Trout.
W hatwould a fall
heritage event be without an old time Cane
Mill? We'll be squeezing cane again this year and serving up the
juice. You'll want to purchase a can of fresh squeezed cane syrup
before heading home.
Children of all ages will enjoy the
Model Train Show located in the Atmore
Lions Community Center.
W hat's a festival without food? The Poarch Creek Indians will be roasting corn on the cob still in the husks. Local clubs and churches will join commercial vendors to offer a tempting variety of foods from barbequed ribs to German sausage's . . . So, Come Hungry !
